The Business of Busy-ness

Ever have one of those days when you get nothing on your to-do list accomplished? When life gets in the way of your, well, life?

Busy-ness begets tiredness. Tiredness begets procrastination. Procrastination begets ignoring priorities and what matters most.

That has been happening to me a lot. All of a sudden my world and my life are full of busy-ness. And because things have gotten so busy, so seemingly all important, I have let the truly important slip to the side.

I don’t like it; I don’t like it one bit.

I don’t like it because the biggest priority that my busy-ness helps me ignore is spending time with God. I still pray with Him and I know He is present but I am not present in our relationship. There is no real quality time from me. And we all know what a lack of quality time together does to a relationship.

I love God. I love my relationship with Him. Spending quiet time, waiting, listening, just being present in His presence. I also spend time with Him when I write this blog. He prompts me with ideas, leads me to the scripture references - I sure don’t know the bible that well, and I learn about Him as I write. I love spending time with Him. Bottom line, I think God rocks! Who doesn’t like to hang with people who rock? Well, you wouldn't know I do from my actions lately.

The good news is, since I’m the one who found myself so importantly busy with no time for God, I’m the one who can un-busy myself just a bit and get God back into my schedule.

October – or as I’m going to call it Rocktober – is the second anniversay of Soul Promptings.  So to celebrate and as a way to make room for God, I am going to spend time with Him writing and posting here everyday. 31 days of walking, writing and hanging with God. I realize as my postings have been far and few between of late this will be a daunting task. But if I know God, I just have to show up everyday and He’ll take me the rest of the way. That's part of what good relationships are about - teamwork. And I'm using Rocktober as a way to strengthen and deepen my relationship with God.

If you too find yourself too busy, put down that list and put up your feet. God is inviting us to a deep and loving relationship. All we have to do is show up and spend time with Him.

So, let’s get busy and rock on . . .
